The Client

Star RV is a premier motorhome rental company specialising in providing luxury vehicles to explore Australia and New Zealand. They offer a fleet of modern motorhomes equipped with all the amenities needed for a self-sufficient and enjoyable journey, specifically targeting those in the US, UK, AU and NZ. 

They stand out in the market due to their commitment to delivering high-quality service, including 24/7 roadside assistance and one-way rentals between locations. Star RV caters to a diverse range of travellers, from families to couples and solo adventurers. 

The Challenge

JUCY acquired the business in 2023, being a relatively unknown motorhome hire brand, Star RV faced several challenges, including building brand awareness and gaining visibility in the highly competitive markets of Australia and New Zealand. 

In a crowded market, Star RV had challenges breaking through in the organic search space. Search engines prioritise websites with high domain and content authority, making it challenging to compete against businesses with long-established online presences.

The Solution

Star RV set a 90-day challenge for Tomahawk to enhance their website’s overall ranking and boost organic traffic. The goal was to attract higher-quality visitors, positioning Star RV to compete more effectively in the competitive motorhome rental market. It also assigned Tomahawk to oversee both domestic and international digital campaigns in the form of Google Ad campaigns. 

SEO Strategies 

  • Initially we conducted an audit of Star RV’s current standings. This involved identifying which pages of their site were receiving significant traffic and pinpointing pages that required substantial improvement. 
  • We carried out a competitive analysis to understand what Star RV’s key competitors were also doing in this space. 
  • This was followed by comprehensive keyword research to determine which keywords were currently ranking and new keywords with opportunity for growth. We isolated topic clusters which include subjects with substantial search volume.
  • Combining all these insights, we developed a list of action items and a new landing page structure to support conversion and SEO efforts.  
  • We identified a significant opportunity to optimise the Google Business Profile accounts to improve their ability to attract new visitors.

  • We launched 18 Star RV campaigns. These included 6 dedicated brand campaigns, as well as 6 campaigns tailored for key international markets such as the USA, Canada and the UK and their domestic markets of Australia and New Zealand.  
  • Our detailed analysis and optimisation of locations, keywords and budgets has been essential to ensure budgets were allocated effectively and potential growth optimised. 
  • Consistent refinements are made based by reviewing performance metrics to maintain high ad quality, test new audience segments, and strategically restructure campaigns for improved results.

Overall, our approach enabled us to generate a wealth of high-quality, unique content aimed at driving increased website traffic. Following two months of dedicated campaign optimisation, we observed significant improvements across key performance metrics: 

  • Revenue from Ads in August tripled compared to July, with ROAS following the same upward trend. As a result, the cost of sale dropped to 14%. 
  • Revenue from international markets surged by 205%, making up 41% of the total revenue. 
  • Purchases increased by 115%, while the average transaction value rose by 53%, indicating that we are not only attracting more customers but also engaging more valuable ones who are ready to spend more.
